Course Objectives

  • Fundamental Nursing Skills: Teach students the basic nursing skills required for patient care, such as measuring vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature), bathing, dressing, and feeding patients.

  • Preparation for State Certification Exam: Prepare students for the Minnesota Nurse Aide Competency Exam (NACE) or other relevant certification exams required to become a licensed CNA in the state.
Requirements or Prerequisites
  • Education: Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. If you are still in high school, you may be eligible to apply with permission from your school counselor.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of program enrollment.
  • Criminal Background Check: All applicants are required to undergo a criminal background check. Certain convictions may disqualify candidates from participation in clinical training.
  • Health Screening: Proof of immunizations and a negative tuberculosis (TB) test result are mandatory to ensure the safety of patients and fellow students. Evidence of good physical health may also be requested.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication with patients and the healthcare team. Applicants may be required to demonstrate English language skills.
  • Application and Enrollment Fee: There is an application fee to apply for the CNA program. Upon acceptance, students will be required to pay the enrollment fee.
  • Commitment to Clinical Training: Successful applicants must commit to attending all clinical and practical training sessions, which may include off-campus assignments at healthcare facilities.
  • Proof of Citizenship or Eligibility to Work: Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the United States.
